My name is Johnny Chan. Most of my patients call me Dr JC, as they know I am not very fussy about formality. I am a qualified general dentist registered and practising in Australia since 1997.
Since graduating from dental school, I have worked in many dental practices, including small and large group private clinics, public government dental clinics and health fund/dental corporate clinics. In 2007, I started my private clinic in a semi-rural town in New South Wales, Australia. Since then, I have employed many newly graduated (newbie) dentists (try to catch up with 20th-C Internet slang, no ill-intended) and re-lived the struggles of being a newbie dentist with them. So, part of my daily role is to mentor them. I am likely not the best mentor with all the correct answers, but I am happy to show them ALL I know and point them in the right direction to navigate the path/type of dentistry they want to excel. In my mind/motto, “It is always better to have another good dentist rather than a bad one, as our industry already has too much bad reputations.” This is also the purpose of this website.
Another “hobby” of mine is attending dental seminars/workshops. I have not stopped attending seminars every year since I graduated. I am one of those people called dental seminar junkies. On top of that, I have also gone through a few “formal” trainings. Here is the list of all my formal pieces of training:
Bachelor of Dental Surgery
Bachelor of Science (Dental Research)
Graduated Diploma in Dental Implantology
Master of Science in Lasers in Dentistry
Master of Science in Sleep Medicine
Master of Science in Pain Management (Orofacial Pain)
